On June 30, The Pan African Citizen Science e-Lab (PACS e-Lab) organized the World Asteroid Day 2023, a global campaign to raise awareness and promote action on asteroid threats. The discussions covered various topics, including the reasons for observing Asteroid Day, the co-founders, campaign goals, the significance of asteroids, their dangers, recent asteroid impacts, and observatories dedicated to asteroid research worldwide.
Participants also gained insights into the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC), which engages students and educators in asteroid hunting. The meeting concluded with a summary of achievements by African asteroid hunters and a demonstration of how to track their asteroids using Stellarium, a free planetarium software.
