About the Collaboration

The Pan-African Citizen Science e-Laboratory (PACS e-Lab) is collaborating with MMAARS to expand opportunities for African students, educators, researchers, citizen scientists, and aspiring space professionals to engage with human space exploration, analog astronautics, space science, and emerging space technologies.

 

MMAARS is focused on preparing the next generation for human space exploration through experiential and simulation-based training, analog astronautics, research and development, and STEAM education.

Through this collaboration, PACS e-Lab aims to connect African learners and communities with practical opportunities to explore how humans prepare for future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

What is MMAARS?

MMAARS (Mars-Moon Astronautics Academy & Research Sciences) is an organization focused on human space exploration, analog astronautics, experiential learning, research, and education.

Its activities include analog astronautics training, space exploration simulations, research and development, space medicine, emerging technologies, and educational programs designed to prepare participants for the future of human space exploration.

MMAARS provides opportunities for students, researchers, professionals, and citizen scientists to gain practical experience and develop skills relevant to the expanding space sector.

What is Analog Astronautics?

Before astronauts travel to another world, they need to understand how humans can live and work in challenging environments.

Analog astronautics uses Earth-based environments and simulations to study and practice aspects of human space exploration. Participants can experience scenarios designed to simulate some of the challenges that astronauts may encounter during future missions.

These experiences can help develop skills in:

  • Teamwork and communication
  • Problem solving

  • Working in isolated or extreme environments

Analog missions provide a bridge between learning about space exploration and experiencing it in practice.
